ABOUT JOHN SHERMAN

I've been a performer/ teacher/ arranger/ composer of Celtic music since the mid 1980's, though my earlier experience took me through the genres of rock, folk and American traditional string band. While I'm mainly a guitarist these days, I still enjoy playing fiddle, banjo and mandolin in both the old-time American and Irish styles, and continue to play for contra and square dances and at Irish sessions.

I've released three self-produced solo recordings, the second of which, "So Inclined", was released as a bound volume +CD of arrangements  by Mel Bay Publications in 1998. I've also recorded and performed with the groups INISHEER, SILVER ARM and YANKEE CELTIC CONSORT, and recorded a collection of duet Irish guitar arrangements with the late New England guitarist Carol Barney on the FOLK-LEGACY label, released in 2000.

From 2003 to 2010 I taught guitar and banjo at Cincinnati's RILEY SCHOOL OF IRISH MUSIC, and continue to teach in my home area of Columbus, OH.
